Had a bit of fun with this months column in Cycling Active.  Adam Holder bravely tackles the old saw of shaving. Why do racing cyclists, swimmers and ladies do it? There are hundreds of different answers, but  the best one is - it’s traditional … Prints here

last night I was at  Dirt Quake at Coventry Speedway- great fun evening organised by Sideburn magazine with all kinds of vintage and custom bikes racing. Good company, cool bikes,  thrilling race action, bands and a cosy bar. Put a for sale sign on my Guzzi and got a lot of interest -  it never missed a beat on the way up so opted to ride back home after the event. I quite like riding at night,  even the M1 feels more romantic with less traffic, and the view from the Dartford bridge is a treat. Stopped for petrol and coffee at Ebbsfleet. 2 am entertainment provided by the Essex gumball rally burning up the forecourt, the only others daft enough to be out enjoying the empty roads at this time. After stuffing some newspapers up my jacket - an old cycling trick for chilly descents - Friday Ads not Gazzetta della Sport,  I was ready for a blast down the rollercoaster A21, clear all the way home except for a quick fox who for a split second considered  crossing my path - lucky for both of us he’s smarter than a badger.

Painted motorcycle tank for Jonas @  La Corona  in Barcelona. Its for a sweet little Harley Davidson badged bike that was actually made in Italy by Aermacchi - Spaghetti Western, get it? One of my fave films of that ilk is A Fistful of Dynamite, also known as Duck you sucker or Giu la Testa in Italian.

Back-print for those diamond chaps at  Sideburn. They liked my cycling devil from Hallowe’en so asked me to do a flat track motorbike one. Get ready to outrun the devil on judgement day in one of these …

It’s Burns Night!  the national poet of Scotland was many things - but above all perhaps, a Romantic, so in his honour and dreamers everywhere, here’s something I prepared earlier for a book called “ImagiNation”.  Speculative visions of a future Scotland fuelled by optimism, and usquabae.
